This crocheted doily is an abstract representation of a lotus flower with a textured 3D effect in the central petals. Lotus flowers represent renewal and rebirth and were revered in Ancient Egypt, being the country's national flower today. This is made with Egyptian cotton 4ply wool and a 2mm hook and there is much detail created from the multiple popcorn, puff and front/back post stitches.

This is a finished item, not a pattern. I have used a pale warm orange shade (“langoustine”) combined with a rich purple brown (“aubergine”). The doily is starched to keep the picots in place.

I recommend just surface wipe or gentle spot wash in order to fully maintain the shape as the picot stitches at the end took a lot of pinning out during blocking.

The item will need to be folded during postage and may need a gentle low heat iron to flatten out whilst placed under a clean cloth for protection.
